Lawyer, Partner
Lars Boman has been a legal advisor since 1970, primarily to large Swedish and international publicly listed companies in civil law matters, including maritime, transport, and logistics law (covering all types of road transport, rail, aviation, and shipbuilding), construction law, insurance, reinsurance, and international trade.
He has acted as lead counsel in a large number of cases before Swedish courts, including the Supreme Court, as well as in both Swedish and international arbitration proceedings. His expertise spans areas such as maritime and transport law, construction, Swedish and international trade, insurance, and reinsurance. Notable cases include (maritime law) “NERVION” (Supreme Court), “BRITANNIA” (Labour Court – which later gave rise to the so-called “Lex Britannia” amendments in Swedish labour law), “ESTORIL” (Labour Court); (insurance) the Swedish Nuclear Insurance Pool v. Sydkraft regarding the Barsebäck nuclear power plant (Supreme Court); (shipbuilding) GNMTC v. Götaverken (the so-called “Libyan Tanker Case”) (Court of Appeal); (construction) Skanska v. Greater Stockholm Suburbs (Court of Appeal); the JAS case (aircraft noise) (Environmental Court), several of which have become well-known precedents. He has also represented clients in numerous Swedish and international arbitrations, including Reinsurers v. Svenska Kredit (reinsurance; lead counsel for several major global reinsurers), Reinsurers v. Njord, Reinsurers v. Folksam International (LUAP), and many other disputes related to transport, maritime law, construction, international trade, insurance, and reinsurance. Other cases include the Falsterbo plane crash (Malmö District Court) and “SAVA STAR” (Labour Court and European Court of Justice 2014, final ruling in the Labour Court in November 2015, full victory), as well as numerous construction disputes (see separate section under the heading “Construction”).
Lars Boman is frequently appointed as arbitrator—both as chair and co-arbitrator—in Swedish and international arbitration proceedings across all of the above-mentioned areas, particularly in maritime/transport, construction, and international trade.
